Mast of Konstanty Maciejewicz

Masz Konstantego Maciejewicza
Masz Konstantego Maciejewicza

This 30-meter structure, emphasising Szczecin’s marine character, welcomes everyone who enters Szczecin via the Long Bridge, at the Gdynia Boulevard.

The mast comes from the training ship "Kapitan K. Maciejewicz", built in 1929 at the Bremer Vulcan shipyard in Bremen. The ship was a so-called general cargo ship - she carried all kinds of goods and products put in boxes, barrels or sacks.

Initially, she transported goods around, among others, the Gulf of Mexico and was then called SS "Wisconsin". In the 1950s, the ship was bought by the Polish Ocean Lines in Gdynia and renamed "Fryderyk Chopin". A few years later, the vessel became the property of a Szczecin fishing company and changed her name again, this time to SS "Kaszuby".

In 1973, Polish Steamship Company decided to reclassify the ship as an accommodation hulk. Therefore, the new "Kapitan K. Maciejewicz" permanently moored at Wały Chrobrego and was handed over to the Marine High School in Szczecin. She ended her life in 1982, when she sailed on the last voyage – to be scrapped in Sweden.
