Autumn in Szczecin

Shorter days and less sunshine don’t have to mean staying indoors. Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year, with its colours inviting us to venture beyond the city centre and explore places we often leave for another time during the summer.

A must-see on any autumn outing is the Bukowa Forest (Puszcza Bukowa) with the Emerald Lake (Jezioro Szmaragdowe). Full of colour, interesting paths and themed trails, it is perfect for both a short walk and a longer excursion. It is also a great choice for families looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and spend some time outdoors.

It is hard not to be impressed by the spectacular colours of the Wkrzańska Forest (Puszcza Wkrzańska), Lake Głębokie or the Syrenie Stawy ponds. Here, you will find all the classic signs of autumn, as well as peace and a welcome break from the city. Simply hop on a bike or set off on foot and within just a few minutes you can find yourself surrounded by forests glowing in shades of brown, gold and red.

Another place filled with autumn colours is Szczecin’s Central Cemetery. It is not only a place of remembrance, but also an impressive park that can be explored along two designated routes: a historical trail and a dendrological trail.

If the weather is not ideal for a walk, there is plenty to discover indoors. Szczecin offers many places where you can learn about the city’s history, explore contemporary art or discover some of its lesser-known stories. These include branches of the National Museum in Szczecin, such as the Dialogue Centre Upheavals, as well as the Museum of Technology and Transport – Art Depot in Szczecin.

For families with children, we particularly recommend Fabryka Wody and its Edukatorium, where you can spend time exploring and learning creatively before heading to the swimming pool area. Another great option is the Maritime Science Centre, where visitors can experience the spirit of the sea and test their skills aboard a ship.

Autumn is also a great time to check the calendar of exhibitions and cultural events. In the coming weeks, the city has plenty to offer fans of history, photography, contemporary art and design. It is also a season full of concerts and entertainment at venues such as Enea Arena, the Szczecin Philharmonic and the Słowianin Cultural Centre.

And after a walk or sightseeing, you can simply stop for a coffee and something sweet. A hot chocolate at the Wedel Chocolate Lounge, a herring roll at Przełomy Kafe or a coffee with a cinnamon bun from Caffee Rower at Jasne Błonia or by the Emerald Lake are perfect for a break during an autumn adventure.

Autumn in Szczecin does not have to mean the end of the season for exploring the city. Quite the opposite – it is a great time to discover Szczecin at a slower pace and see it from a slightly different perspective than in summer.
