The Queen of Sports Returns to Szczecin: Wiesław Maniak Memorial This Wednesday
24.08.2026
On Wednesday, 26 August, the athletics stadium on Litewska Street in Szczecin will once again host top-level international competition. The 9th International Wiesław Maniak Memorial will bring leading athletes to the city, with Polish sprint star Ewa Swoboda and Szczecin high jumper Maja Słodzińska among the names to watch.
Ewa Swoboda has been one of the leading figures in Polish sprinting for years. The Szczecin meeting will also be her final competition of the summer season, giving local fans a special opportunity to see one of Poland's best-known athletes racing live.
The programme offers much more than sprinting. Spectators will be able to watch women's and men's races over 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m, as well as the women's 100m hurdles and men's 1500m. The field events will include the men's discus and women's javelin.
One of the highlights for the home crowd will be the return of the women's high jump after several years away from the programme. Szczecin's Maja Słodzińska will compete in front of her home supporters as the newly crowned Polish champion. She secured the national title with a personal best of 1.88 metres.
For visitors spending time in Szczecin, the memorial is also an opportunity to add a major sporting event to a city break. A live athletics meeting offers a completely different experience from watching on television, with the speed of the track events and the tension of the field competitions unfolding just metres away from the stands.
The 9th International Wiesław Maniak Memorial takes place on Wednesday, 26 August, at the athletics stadium on Litewska Street in Szczecin. Tickets are available via the official event website: https://www.maniakmemorial.pl/bilety/
