Szczecin is preparing for another major project that could reshape the city’s image. The architectural competition for the new home of the Contemporary Theatre has been decided, and the building is set to rise on Łasztownia Island — one of the fastest-developing areas in the city. Already popular with both locals and visitors, this riverside district may soon gain another landmark.

The location is a natural fit. Over the past few years, Łasztownia has grown into one of Szczecin’s most interesting cultural and leisure destinations. The area is already home to the Maritime Science Centre, the Stara Rzeźnia cultural venue, Cielętnik – Baltic Port of Culture, North East Marina, the mural gallery beneath the Castle Route, the seasonal Holiday Park, lively boulevards and a growing restaurant scene. A new theatre in this setting would further strengthen Łasztownia’s role as a key destination on the city map.

Accessibility is another strong advantage. Visitors can reach Łasztownia easily by bike, tram, bus, car, or by SKM rail via the nearby Szczecin Łasztownia stop. That makes the future theatre an appealing place not only for culture lovers, but also for tourists planning a city break in Szczecin.

After the success of the Szczecin Philharmonic and the enduring appeal of Wały Chrobrego, the city is once again investing in architecture with landmark potential. The new Contemporary Theatre on Łasztownia could become a symbol of modern Szczecin — combining culture, riverside atmosphere and tourism in one destination.
