Szczecin is now officially part of the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS Index) 2025.

As the fourth Polish member - alongside Kraków, Gdańsk and Wrocław - the city reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable tourism and event industry. The GDS index compares over 100 cities worldwide based on 70 criteria in the area of sustainability. Szczecin scores highly with its “Floating Garden 2050” concept, which focuses on water and green spaces. Major sailing events already take place here today, attracting visitors from all over the world.

In 2024 alone, the number of overnight stays increased by 9.1 % compared to the previous year. Joining the GDS index offers new opportunities for international cooperation and sustainable urban development - not only for tourists, but also for business tourism.
