Former seat of the Prussian Royal Post (currently Polish Post)
The neo-Gothic post office building was constructed on the site of the fortifications and casemates between the present Port Gate and the Royal Bastion, (demolished after 1873) closing from the west the former green parade park, later referred to as the Berlin Park.
A three-storey building is made of red, partly-glazed brick and has a richly-decorated elevation. At the front there are three avant-corps with entrance gates on the ground level, two of which have track-ways which were used by cargo trams entering the internal courtyards of the post office. The tram rails have survived to this day.
The middle avant-corps has a five-axis structure, and the side avant-corps have one axis, filled up with blends in the upper parts. The lower parts of all elevations have a high wall base plinth made of stone. Steel gratings, balustrades and handrails are a proof of the exceptional blacksmith’s craftsmanship.
