Church of Sts. Peter and Paul
Kościół świętych Piotra i Pawła w Szczecinie
In the place where the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul was built, there had been an earlier wooden temple.
Sources date its construction to 1124. The construction of the church is closely related to the Christianization mission of Bishop Otto of Bamberg, who stayed in Szczecin from August to October of that year.
The wooden church was probably the oldest religious building in the city. Unfortunately, it burned down during the Danish invasion (1189). The four-year reconstruction began in 1223. The church was rebuilt from scratch - this time in brick.
Despite the turbulent history of the church and a lot of damage, many relics of the past have survived to this day.
