Groth’s Wooden Villa

Visit Szczecin
Dom Grotha

Dating from the mid-nineteenth century, the building belongs to the oldest preserved in Grabów.

It has a “post-and-beam” construction with the frame made of larch wood. The use of impermanent materials was caused by the location of the building on the outskirts of the Szczecin fortress. Its first owner was a transport entrepreneur Daniel Groth, and later the villa changed owners several times.

In 1912, the house was renovated, and a garden veranda was added. The last owner of the house before the war was the doctor W. Leithoff. The building survived World War II intact. After 1945 it housed the Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.

In 2005, the dilapidated house was bought by a Szczecin architect. After renovation, it has housed the offices of Genius Loci Architects, together with the studio and the chamber hall.
