Szczecin's anchors

For years the anchor, a device that makes it possible to secure a ship, has been not only an element of a ship's equipment, but also a symbol that appears in sailing, art, heraldry, craft, not forgetting the symbol of Fighting Poland, very important in Polish history.

After the end of "service" on large ships the anchors are usually scrapped together with them. Those that escaped a similar fate found their way to museums or the streets of port cities, emphasizing their unique maritime character. Walking around Szczecin you can come across dozens of them. They decorate streets and parks, creating a kind of monuments to history. They are like griffins - a symbol of Szczecin adorning the city.

When strolling around the city, take a photo of as many of them as possible. Keep an eye on Visit Szczecin's Facebook profile - perhaps during your stay we will announce another "Walking the trail of Szczecin's anchors" with Wiesław Seidler. It's a great trip through the maritime history of the city.
