White Eagle Fountain

Fontanna Orła Białego
Fontanna Orła Białego

This construction was to serve propaganda - the eagle with outstretched wings symbolized the ruler taking care of his subjects.

The baroque White Eagle fountain stands on the square of the same name. It used to be the end of the municipal water supply. The architecturally refined fountain is made of sandstone, and its bottom bowl is clover-shaped.

The centre of the fountain is a four-sided stem with four holes which feature scary faces of mascarons. At the top of the fountain there is a dynamic sculpture of an eagle.

Water gushed from both the beak of the bird and the mouths of mascarons.
